LINK-AGE : coordination and consolidation of European biogerontology: en route towards formation of a European college of biogerontology

Past EU funded projects

The fifth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP5) instruments

i) Action jointly funded by the EC ("shared-cost action")

Research and technological development (RTD) projects.
Demonstration projects.
Combined RTD and demonstration projects.
Support for access to research infrastructure.

ii) Concerted action

Action to coordinate research activities already receiving State funding.

iii) Action for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

iv) Training schemes

Marie Curie fellowships are granted under the specific programme on "Improving human research potential and the socio-economic knowledge base".

Research training networks and thematic networks intended primarily for PhD holders and young scientists with relevant experience.

v) Accompanying measures

These measures contribute to efficient implementation of the programme, to preparing future activities and to supporting international cooperation and dissemination of results in order to monitor and assess the impact of the research and technological development activities.

5th Framework program projects on ageing

A number of indicators confirmed the growth of European ageing research in clusters of expertise.

FP5 Key Action on The Ageing Population funded numerous joint projects on several different thematic, among which GENAGE (ageing-related genes in complementary biological systems from in vitro model systems to human centenarians), PROTAGE (proteins modification in ageing), CELLAGE (molecular mechanisms of cell replicative senescence), AGEGEN (ageing in the nematode C. elegans), FUNCTIONAGE (functional genomics and proteomics of cell ageing), ECHA (healthy human ageing and frailty), IMAGINE (immunosenescence) and much more…
