Research interests and relevant experience of responsible scientist

The group of Prof. Christos Zouboulis uses skin cell cultures and 3D-skin equivalent models to investigate the molecular skin ageing mechanisms. Moreover, the group investigates endocrine regulation as fundamental mechanism of intrinsic skin ageing and tests antisense oligonucleotides and siRNA molecules against genes associated with skin ageing.

Among other prizes, Christos Zouboulis has been awarded the “Felix Wankel Animal Protection Research Award 2000” for developing skin models to substitute animals in studying human diseases, the “Oskar Gans Major Prize” for Dermatological Research in 1993, the “European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Dermatology Research Fellowship” in 1997, the “Beauty Care Prize” for excellence in Dermatological Cosmetological Research in 2000 and 2002 and the “Paul Gerson Unna Research Award” for studies on the innate immunity in 2005.

Christos Zouboulis has experience in organizing major international and national scientific conferences. He obtains four patents, the “Sebocytes, sebocyte cell lines and applications thereof, PCT/EP99/0998”, the “Acne treatment with lipooxigenase inhibitors, PCT/EP02/04715”, the “Use of microbiology non-viral substances for treating acne, PCT/EP02/09452” and the “Use of enzyme inhibitors with aminopeptidase N and/or dipeptidylpeptidase IV activities and pharmaceutical preparations produced therefrom for the therapy and prevention of dermatological diseases with seborrhoeic hyperproliferation and altered differentiation stages, PCT/EP03/02356”.
